January/February Dollar Store Craft Contest | Classy Lessons

I absolutely LOVE making crafts!? It gives me great satisfaction to spend a few minutes every day or so producing something with my own two hands.? What is better than having this satisfaction with a reasonable price tag?? Not much!? I?ve been following the Dollar Store Crafts website for several months and have been itching to enter one of their monthly contests.? So the following post represents my first effort.

Sometimes we need to be reminded of how special our home and family really are.? When we find ourselves envious of others, it?s important to reflect on our loved ones and how lucky we are to have a place to call home.? I used this inspiring reflection as a basis for a 30-minute dollar store craft.? This craft is entered into a contest sponsored by Dollar Store Crafts, and I have the chance to win a $100 gift card from Dollar Tree.? Why don?t you enter to win, too?

Here?s how to make this beautiful reminder of the special things in life for only $6:

Materials:

From Dollar Tree:

On hand supplies:

  • Hot glue gun and glue
  • Acrylic craft paint in your choice of colors (I used silver)
  • Sandpaper
  • Hairdryer (optional)

Directions:

  1. Paint the Family picture frame with a very thin coating of the craft paint using one of the Dollar Tree paintbrushes.? While the frame dries, complete the following steps.
  2. Remove the backing and papers from the picture frame.? Adhere the contact paper to the cardboard backing of the picture frame by wrapping it similarly to a gift.? See the following picture:Contact Paper Corner Closeup
  3. Using the hot glue gun and glue, adhere the Home Sweet Home magnet to the contact paper covered picture frame backing.Glue Gun
  4. By this time the thin coating of craft paint should be dry.? If not, use a hairdryer set to the coolest setting to finish the drying process.
  5. Use the sandpaper to distress the painted frame by lightly sanding the paint on the frame.Paint Bottle
  6. Insert the glass and backing back into the frame.
  7. Remove a silk flower from the bunch and hot glue it to one of the top corners of the picture frame.

Voila!? Now you have a beautiful object to look at and remind you to be thankful for what you have.? It?s perfect for your home or a gift.Finished with Flower
