As somebody who?s heard ?Was it PLANNED?? as a response to more than one ? okay, more than two ? of my pregnancies, I can really relate to reader Elizabeth?s question:
?How do you share the exciting news about new babies with people who aren?t nice about it? How do you handle rude comments about the size of your family? (I had relatives offer to send sympathy cards regarding our announcement about number 1! crazy.)?
I?ve always taken the approach of waiting as long as I can to share the news with folks I figured wouldn?t be supportive, and then allowing another family member to break the news so I wouldn?t have to be on the receiving end of the initial shock and awe-inspiring rudeness. Usually by the time there is an Actual Baby to look at and coo over ? and they see that you haven?t completely collapsed under the weight of a larger family ? people seem to come to their senses. Have you ever dealt with critical responses to a new pregnancy? If so, how did you deal?
Each week, we?ll pose a question emailed to us from the community (hey, that?s you!) and open it up for you to share your thoughts and comments since we really do believe that it does take a village to raise a village of kids. If you?ve got a question, email us: 4kidsormoreblog[at]gmail[dot]com
