Jay Weston: Some Like It Hot... Especially Babies. Here's Yoomi!

Yoomi pix

At dinner recently with a close friend, his wife and their 10-month-old baby, I was introduced to a new product which astonished me in its uniqueness, practicality and usefulness. Halfway through our meal, his wife said it was time to feed the baby... and she whipped out of her bag something called a Yoomi. It was a bottle-and-warmer in one, and she merely pressed an orange button on its top to activate the built-in heater in the head. In 60 seconds, as I watched in amazement, the milk in the bottle had been heated to just the right temperature (86-90 degrees) for the baby... and the little one eagerly sucked away at the built-in nipple on top of the Yoomi.

I remember going out with them a month ago and she had to go into the restaurant's kitchen to heat the baby bottle in a pan of hot water there. "This is a new product from England," my buddy told me. "I read about it in the Wall Street Journal and tracked it down in a baby shop here, where it just went on sale for about $40. You fill the bottle with breast milk or formula, heat the special warmer head in a microwave for 90 seconds, then attach it and it's ready to go." He went on to tell me that it good for at least a hundred uses before needing to be replaced; they merely prepare the head and bottle before venturing out. When they drove to Santa Barbara, they took two of them in the car. "Now we can even handle midnight feedings without having to go to the trouble of heating the milk," he added.

I went to the Yoomi website and found out a little more about it. It is the first rechargeable self-warming baby bottle system available in the U.S. It was developed in the U.K. by an engineer and his wife, Jim and Farah Shaikh, who were inspired by the many feeding challenges they faced following the premature birth of their first child. Over the course of five years of development, the innovative product received several awards for its engineering. The British Library just named it one of the fifteen best inventions of the decade,

Curious, I bought a five-ounce one for $33 online. The original model had a beehive-shaped top warmer which had to be heated in boiling water for 25 minutes before using. The new model, just available, can be prepared in a microwave in less than two minutes. The milk flows over the warmer on its way to the nipple, so you don't have to worry about overheating the bottom of the bottle. It reached the ideal temp in just 60 seconds once you press the orange button. The website explains that the warmer is powered by a special "phase-change" gel (a non-toxic material which generates heat as it transforms from liquid to solid) safely sealed within the leak-proof chamber, much like traditional hand warmers. Once activated by the push-button, the gel flows inside a series of channels on the outside of the warmer to gently heat the milk. The system remains warm for about an hour. An interesting side note: the wide, soft silicon nipple features strategic vents to help reduce colic by preventing air from bubbling through the milk. How ingenious is the mind of man! This English couple saw a worldwide need... and by sheer industry and effort, they created a unique product which will have appeal and use to mothers (and fathers) throughout the globe. Yes, Yoomi is here, little one.

Type 6 unique cycling | Home Improvement and Business

cycling can be divided into six unique species. Or the type you want to depend on your reasons and objectives for cycling

.

This is the most obvious type of bike because they are easy to spot. Cyclists usually wear cycling clothes, colorful, often for a group ride on a weekend, alone or with a sport bike wheel best race times seem very unique, a trip to the race, and interested with nothing to do with race and equipment notch lightweight top. If you?re in the sports of cycling, you probably know the best racing magazine or a blog and do not need to speak French to know exactly what the ?Tour de France? is all about.

There are not many fitness cyclists compared to some other groups of cyclists, probably because of the discovery of a regular stationary bike cycling fitness. cycle itself or a stroll friend that targets fitness itself. They are less concerned about their driving style of a bicycle or clothes they wear, and more concerned with getting into shape and weight. Some are casual in their approach while others are under the bike to the length and difficulty, increase muscular endurance and hey go. I must admit that until now, I know that this type has a name and the group associated , and I even became one of them there are many sites dedicated to all utility cycling

..

utility cyclists using the bicycle Whether for a particular purpose to go to work, shopping, or perhaps their actual job that the police working on their bikes or e-bike .. For the utility, you probably have a mountain bike or a hybrid bike and the possibility of understand more about bike maintenance, because you rely on your bike for transportation or work

.

This is the largest of a group of cyclists, but he at least number of brands. recreational cyclists do not have a common type of clothes they do not ride a bicycle type, they did not place the general location they ride for recreation. And of course, that leads people to different places. Recreation can take you to explore your environment, or public bicycle path, the new path that you are getting, or just see some countryside or city. What defines recreational cyclists, c ? is that they ride for pure pleasure, although they may have health as motivators backgrounds

.

You could probably fit the bike in cycling for leisure, but has become a mountain bike itself to a point in my life, I feel the need of its own class to do justice to it. Mountain bikers traveling for fun, but choose to create mountain bike fun. How extreme a person is in place for individuals, but they are more motivated by the call of the nature of the roughness of the mild increase in urban riders

.

A core group of the most difficult in my opinion, and probably the more adventurous, too. A cycle tourist is someone who wants to explore parts of the country, the state itself or the world on their bikes. They chose the long distance goal and up there in no more the bike it is they could sleep in a tent that motels and hotels could be in the budget as well .. Rain, wind and heat did not stop the cycling is ready for any kind of conditions that may cast their way. For the bike tour, you can say that the journey is more important than the destination. Whatever the type of bike you are interested or want to try, the bike is a great activity that helps the world in many ways. I?m sure there?s more room for most of us use our bikes to improve our lives

.

Sam Walker is a cycling fan who researches and writes critical pieces of equipment cycling. He recently worked on a journal of bicycle tool kit with the popular Gardens Mechanics Tool Kit Advanced for those interested in biking renovation

Boos in Arizona motivate Prince Fielder

By The Associated Press

Associated Press Sports

updated 7:16 p.m. ET Oct. 3, 2011

Arizona's fans let Milwaukee slugger Prince Fielder have it during this year's All-Star game, relentlessly booing him for selecting teammate Rickie Weeks over Diamdondbacks outfielder Justin Upton for the Home Run Derby.

Headed back to Chase Field for Game 3 of the NL division series, Fielder will likely hear it again, but the Brewers are well past it.

"I'm sure they'll boo him and it seems to motivate him and get him fired up," Milwaukee left fielder Ryan Braun said. "But from our perspective, we understand why they felt the way they did. They should want Justin Upton in the derby. He's a stud, he's a great player and he's a lot of fun to watch, so it's certainly understandable."

Fielder didn't have any problem with the boos during the All-Star game; he ended up hitting a three-run homer that lifted the National League to a 5-1 victory and home-field advantage for the World Series.

"They (Arizona's fans) and we should be thanking him," Braun said. "Prince was MVP of the All-Star game and whoever wins gets home-field advantage, but aside from that I think it's probably over with."

ROOKIES RULE: When Tampa Bay's Jeremy Hellickson starts Game 4 on Tuesday, it will mark just the 10th time since 1900 that a team has used two rookie starters in the postseason.

If the right-hander gets the victory, Tampa Bay will join the 1927 World Series champion New York Yankees as the only teams to get a pair of victories from its rookie starters.

George Pipgras and Wilcy Moore were the winners of Game 2 and 4 in the Yankees' four-game sweep of the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Tampa Bay rookie left-hander Matt Moore beat the Rangers in Game 1.

"Kind of an unusual thought," Rays manager Joe Maddon said.

Hellickson went 13-10 in the regular season.

"I have be to reminded that he is a rookie," Maddon said. "He's different. ... The way he pitched for us. He handles the moment extremely well."

----

WHAT DID HE SAY?: Jim Leyland and Joe Girardi both downplayed Detroit reliever Jose Valverde's declaration after Game 2 that the Tigers had the series wrapped up.

Valverde told reporters the best-of-five AL division series was "over" after Detroit evened its series against the Yankees at 1-1 on Sunday. Of course, it's hard to take too much at face value when the playful closer is talking.

"I do think he said - I think when you read all the stories about it - he admitted it was tongue-in-cheek when he said it," said Leyland, the Detroit manager. "I didn't take offense to the video at Yankee Stadium when they were talking about the World Series, like we were the junior varsity and they were getting ready for the World Series. I didn't take offense to that at all. In fact, I thought it was great. That's what they should be talking about. ... I would hate to think the New York Yankees or the Detroit Tigers need any bulletin board stuff to get fired up this time of year."

Girardi, who manages the Yankees, wasn't about to harp on Valverde's comments either.

"I wasn't in there, so I don't know the context," Girardi said. "You always talk about bulletin board material - the bottom line is you've still got to go out and play the game and you've got to win the game. I'm sure you wouldn't want someone not being confident in your team."

---

HARRISON HANDLES IT WELL: Texas manager Ron Washington wants Game 4 starter Matt Harrison to continue what the Rangers' rotation has done all year.

"He certainly has shown that he has the ability to go out there and keep his team in the ballgame, which is what we ask all our starting pitchers," Washington said. "Give us an opportunity. We're very pleased with him."

Harrison, 14-9 in the regular season, got his first taste of the postseason by getting two outs out of the bullpen in Game 1.

"I think it definitely helped," Harrison said. "It was better for me to do than just throw on the side. I actually got into the postseason game and get the butterflies out of the way."

Washington agreed.

"For him to feel what it's like to be in a big stage and go out there and try to recognize it is the same," Washington said. "If you hit your spots and hit your pitches, good things can happen."

---

ZIM'S TIME: Tampa Bay senior adviser Don Zimmer has been involved in the playoffs 18 times and considers the Rays' trip this season as the most remarkable.

The Rays were nine games out of playoff contention through Sept. 3, but recovered to earn the team's third postseason berth over the last four years.

"I've been in a lot of them, a lot of close ones, this club here, it's been phenomenal," Zimmer said.

Zimmer admits when he joined the Rays in January 2004 that the team becoming a regular in the playoffs seemed far-fetched. The franchise has made a dramatic turnaround under principal owner Stu Sternberg.

"No chance, and there it is," Zimmer said.

Zimmer is finishing his 63rd season in baseball and wants to be back in 2012. Completing a deal in the offseason would seem to be a simple formality since Sternberg has said that Zimmer can have a job with the organization for as long as he wants one.

(AP) ? Arsonists torched a mosque in an Arab village in northern Israel early Monday, setting off protests by villagers who later clashed with police. Graffiti sprayed at the site suggested Jewish radicals, suspected in other recent mosque fires, were involved.

Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said a carpet was burned inside the mosque in Tuba-Zangria and interior walls were damaged. Copies of the Quran, the Muslim holy book, were also burned, Israeli media reported.

The words "price tag" were spray painted on the mosque, Rosenfeld added ? a reference to a Jewish settler practice of attacking Palestinians or the Israeli military for government operations or attacks against Jewish settlements.

Army Radio also reported that the family name of a settler and his infant son killed last week in a car crash near the West Bank town of Hebron was scrawled on a wall of the mosque in Tuba-Zangria. Israeli police have said Palestinian rock-throwers struck the man in the head, causing him to lose control of the car.

About 200 villagers from Tuba-Zangria marched toward a major intersection to protest the mosque fire, with the intention of blocking the road, Rosenfeld said. Some demonstrators set tires on fire and threw stones at police officers, who dispersed the crowd with tear gas, he said. No one was injured and no arrests were reported by midday.

No unrest was reported inside the village.

Security was heightened across northern Israel to prevent further disturbances and police met with village leaders in an effort to defuse tensions, Rosenfeld said.

Israeli Arabs account for one-fifth of Israel's population of 7.6 million, and many live in northern Israel.

The mosque was the third to be set afire since the government destroyed structures in an unauthorized Jewish settlement outpost in the West Bank last month. An Israeli military base was also vandalized after the demolitions and threatening graffiti was sprayed at the apartment of a prominent Israeli settlement opponent. Jewish extremists are suspected in all of these incidents.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu denounced the mosque arson, and ordered the Shin Bet internal security agency to act quickly to locate the assailants. A text message from his office said he "was fuming when he saw the pictures" and said the attack "ran counter to the values of the state of Israel."

Most "price tag" actions are carried out in the West Bank, and attacks on mosques inside Israel are rarer.

An official at the mosque, Ali Zangria, told Army Radio that a villager detected smoke rising from the mosque around 2 a.m. and contacted police.

"But everything had already gone up in smoke by then," he said, ruing that his village had been singled out for attack. "The village is a quiet one and we always had good relations with Jewish residents."

However, relations between Arabs and Jews in the area have suffered since the chief rabbi in the nearby town of Safed urged followers last year not to rent or sell their homes to Arabs.

Brand ... - DomainPulse.com - The Beat on the Domain Name Industry

by Pat Kane, Senior Vice President and General Manager Verisign Naming Services

New gTLDs: changing the Internet

For more than 25 years now, the world has been familiar with generic Top Level Domains (gTLDs) and country code TLDs. Top Level Domains (TLDs) are the characters on the right side of the ?dot? in a domain name. An example of this is .com, which is the most common gTLD(1) in use today while examples of ccTLDs include .in, .ru, .au among the approximately 250 cc TLDs that exist.

This structure of the domain name space as we know it today is poised to undergo a profound change with the launch of new gTLDs. New gTLDs are a result of a recent approval by ICANN to expand the number of gTLDs. Under the program, applicants and/or entities themselves can define their gTLD which could be a brand, community, geography or a generic term. For example, a business could apply for its own new gTLD such as ?.yourcompany?. It is possible that this process could result in hundreds of new gTLDs.

Brand gTLDs -Cultivate your business on the Internet

A Brand gTLD may provide an excellent opportunity for companies to secure their online namespace. A Brand gTLD, for example, ?.yourcompany? could potentially provide a means for brand owners to create new ways to extend their trusted brand and services to partners, resellers, and customers and to enhance brand trust. For forward-thinking company executives, IP professionals, and marketing and communications experts, the time is ripe to consider applying for their brand gTLD. Here are a few reasons why:

  • Enhanced Internet presence: As the steward of a gTLD, a company may have authority to enforce requirements for second-level domain name registrants. A Brand gTLD could serve as a nucleus around which a company or organization could group second-level domains for individual products and services as well as partners and resellers.
  • Enhanced security, control, and trust: Applicants for a Brand gTLD (like other gTLDs) will undergo a rigorous application process that considers an applicant?s existing trademarks. A Brand gTLD could help assure Internet users that they are interacting with a legitimate company and an authentic web site. By enforcing registration policies for second-level domains, companies could potentially extend this trust even further.
  • User convenience: Highly targeted domain names and the ability to create URLs rich with keywords may potentially drive user interaction by aiding certain search engine optimization (SEO) and making it easier to browse web content and applications via mobile devices.
  • Brand extension: By issuing second-level domain names to valued partners and resellers, companies may be able to extend the prestige and trust associated with their brands, potentially strengthening relationships, creating new joint marketing opportunities, and reaching new audiences.
  • Consumer and brand affinity: Companies could offer affinity email addresses(2) that may enable consumers to associate with their favorite brands in an entirely new way, potentially expanding marketing opportunities and creating new revenue streams.

Brand owners need to consider this opportunity with alacrity

ICANN has announced that they will begin taking applications for New gTLDs in January of 2012(3). The application period will have a limited time window, and once it is closed anyone who missed the application deadline will possibly have to wait more than a year, before another application window opens.

Given the timelines for application, it becomes critical for companies to make a decision about augmenting their existing marketing strategies with a New gTLD component at this time. Companies should perhaps look at seizing their Brand gTLDs as a true marketing and branding differentiator. Applicants for any New gTLD will be required to demonstrate organizational, operational, and financial capability. The complexity of the application process may necessitate working with an experienced registry service provider. As the world?s largest registry, Verisign has an extensive history in operating the world?s best-known extensions, .com and .net, and can help organizations throughout the entire application process.

With the introduction of New gTLDs, brands will have to rethink their online strategy. A domain name strategy is quickly becoming critical for any organization conducting business or wanting to engage customers online. Ignoring the profound impact of the rapid evolution of the Internet with respect to the introduction of New gTLDs could turn out to be a missed opportunity to extend their brand deeper into the Internet.

Sources:
1 The .com and .net TLDs surpassed a combined total of 108 million domain names in the first quarter of 2011, according to the Verisign Domain Name Industry Brief, Volume 8, Issue 2, May 2011.
2 Use of two part e-mail addresses may be dependent upon changes to existing software so as to recognize two-part e-mail addresses
3 As per information in the ICANN presentation available at www.icann.org/en/minutes/timeline-new-gtld-program-20jun11.pdf, the application for New gTLD will open on 12 January 2012

Know How To Select A Franchise That ... - Improve Your Business Life

The popularity of franchise business has skyrocketed in the last decade. More and more entrepreneurs are preferring to buy a franchise over starting a new business altogether. If you have decided to open a franchise, it is a good business decision since it gives you an entrepreneurial opportunity without a majority of risks attached to startups. However there are hundreds and hundreds of franchise brands out there. How do you choose the most suitable one?

Selecting a franchises from hundreds of different franchises categories is not an easy job. It is a big decision. After all you are going to invest your hard earned money on that franchise. So here are a few important things to keep in mind which will help you pin down on a franchise that suits you best:

Opt for a franchise that interests you. Don?t just go by what others tell you. There is no harm in consulting a franchise consultant or other franchises. But always follows what your heart says.

The best part of buying a franchise is that you can choose whatever kind of franchise you like. Suppose, you are not fond of food or you do not have any interest in the hospitality industry, then what is the point of buying some food & drink franchise such as restaurants, pizza outlets or fast food chains? You would be venturing into a market segment which is huge and you know little about its growth prospects. In other words, it will not be a suitable business venture for you.

A franchising business gives you the freedom to make a choice. Then why not utilize this freedom? There are so many people who hate their jobs. But buying a franchise means the ball is now in your court. There are innumerable types of franchises ranging from education franchise, health & fitness franchises, automotive franchises, beauty franchise, printing and packing franchise, pet-related franchise, retail franchise, IT training franchise and so many more. For easy selection, narrow down your list to just one or two industries.

Always prefer those industries in which either you are extremely interested in or you have prior experience in. Your knowledge and experience will give you invaluable insights into how to run your franchise effectively and how to generate maximum revenue. Suppose if you have years of experience in IT industry and various fields such as network security, information security and more; you can go for a IT training franchise. Your own experience in the IT market will give you an edge over the others.

One of the biggest reasons why some franchises fail to run is because franchisees don?t have interest in their own business ventures. Various entrepreneurs opt for a franchise in industries they have no experience in, however they are passionate about it. While these entrepreneurs may not have the benefit of experience but their eagerness for their new business will definitely pay. Passion is a major driving force to achieve success. If you are passionate about what you do, you will definitely succeed.

Once you have figured out exactly what franchise business opportunity suits you best, start doing your research and meet up with the concerned franchiser and ask all your queries. Before fixing an appointment with the franchiser, make sure that you study about the company, and its reputation in the market. Go for a brand that enjoys a reliable reputation in the market. Finally buy a franchise business in which you have interest and faith in.
